Dutch city installs solar footpath

Platio, a Hungary-based company, has introduced a revolutionary solar footpath spanning 400 square meters in Groningen, the Netherlands, as part of the EU's "Making City" project. Comprised of 2,544 durable solar pavers boasting 21.8% efficiency and capable of withstanding 2 tons of pressure without microcracks, this pathway generates 55,000 kWh of electricity annually, powering Groningen's city hall. Suitable for various surfaces like pavements, terraces, and roads, these pavers are not just environmentally friendly but also offer double functionality by generating electricity while facilitating safe pedestrian and vehicular use. The footpath produced enough electricity to supply 47 Dutch houses for a day, aligning with the Making City project's aim to foster innovative solutions for climate-neutral urban areas.
