Iberostar, a global tourism company and hotel group, announced climate commitments in November 2022.
The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
Iberostar's emissions reduction roadmap, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), includes reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 85% and Scope 3 emissions by 50% by 2030.
Scope 3 emissions make up 77% of Iberostar's carbon footprint.
The company has identified seven greenhouse gas reduction categories, covering various aspects of its operations.
The plan is expected to reduce Iberostar's annual CO2 emissions by 594,000 metric tons.
Other goals include a 35% reduction in energy consumption, the use of renewable energy in all destinations, and the move towards Net Zero buildings in new constructions and renovations.
The company plans to compensate for remaining emissions through nature-based solutions in its destinations.
Iberostar presented its decarbonization roadmap and strategy at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt.
