  • TotalEnergies is actively responding to the call from aviation customers to increase production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in order to reduce the carbon footprint of air transport.

  • The company plans to produce half a million tons of SAF by 2028, which will be enough to meet the gradual increase in the European SAF blending mandate set for 2030.

  • To achieve this goal, TotalEnergies is making significant investments and has launched multiple SAF production projects.

  • The Grandpuits site is being converted into a zero-crude platform to primarily produce SAF from circular feedstock like animal fat and used cooking oil. It is expected to have a production capacity of 210,000 tons per year by 2025, with a further investment announced to increase production by 75,000 tons per year by 2027.

  • At the Normandy project, TotalEnergies is coprocessing SAF from used cooking oil at its Gonfreville refinery. The company plans to increase annual production to 40,000 tons by 2025. Additionally, TotalEnergies will produce an additional 150,000 tons per year of SAF by coprocessing HVO biodiesel produced at La Mède refinery once approved.

  • The La Mède refinery has been converted into a biorefinery, and biodiesel produced there is already being used to make SAF at the TotalEnergies Oudalle plant. There are plans to further invest in the capacity to process 100% waste from the circular economy at La Mède by 2024 to produce biofuels and SAF.

  • TotalEnergies aims to produce 1.5 million tons per year of SAF by 2030 through production units in Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea, aiming to capture 10% of the world market.

  • These initiatives align with TotalEnergies' climate ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and contribute to sustainable development goals.

  • TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company involved in producing and marketing various forms of energy, including oil, biofuels, natural gas, renewables, and electricity. The company emphasizes affordability, cleanliness, reliability, and accessibility of energy while prioritizing sustainable development.
